Saltmine Theatre Company presents the inspiring life of Mary Sumner and Mothers’ Union. Navigating motherhood has never been easy and in Victorian Britain the challenge was a lonely one. In 1876 on the birth of her first grandchild Mary Sumner was moved by the lack of help and guidance offered to mothers and their families. She was inspired to champion the importance of parenthood, faith in God and mutual support. Together with her husband and close friends she began to create a community of mothers from all social classes. Chosen is a moving story of compassion, faith and the inspiring force a company of women can be in a community, nation and the world. “Together, supporting one another, with the help and grace of God I believe we can calm each other when we feel afraid, strengthen one another when we are weak and work together to raise our children to the glory of God and to raise the home life of this nation.” Mothers’ Union is now an international organisation in over 80 countries with over 4 million members.
This performance can be repeated twice in a day, if desired.
